New Features/Revisions to the BCBS Website
Healthcare transparency provides employees with the information necessary to choose healthcare providers based on value. Providing reliable cost and quality information empowers Blue KC members to better understand their health benefits and the costs of healthcare services.
Blue KC is pleased to inform you about the following transparency tools, which are now available with others scheduled to go live this February.
1. MyBlueKC.com/Member Web Portal Updates - the member home page displays important information and resources about the members' Blue KC policy 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each section is customized to the members' policy and coverage details to give access to personalized coverage details, claims history, health information, cost saving tools, and much more.
2. Doctor and Hospital Provider Finder - Allows members to search by provider name, specialty, medical procedures, medical conditions, or other key words to find local and out-of-area providers. In addition, members can use tools such as integrated Google Maps, patient reviews, quality, recognition, and cost categories.
3. Compare Costs for Common Procedures - The cost estimate tool, located within the Doctor and Hospital Provider Finder, provides greater transparency by providing information on the cost of the most common elective procedures for inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic services at area hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and free-standing radiology centers. BlueKC will expand the number of treatment categories from 402 to 1,632. Members can also now drill down to see an estimate of how much they or a family member must pay for the treatment. The new feature applies member cost sharing amounts (deductibles, copayments, and/or coinsurance) to estimate how much the selected family member would pay for treatment and how much is paid by Blue KC.
