Gallery Kids Event FREE this Saturday, 2.22.14
UCM Gallery of Art and Design to Host Gallery Kids Workshop Feb. 22 The Gallery of Art and Design and the Art Education program at the University of Central Missouri will host Gallery Kids from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 22, in the gallery, located at 217 E. Clark in Warrensburg.
Kids ages 5-12 are invited to create their own mono-prints with the current gallery exhibit of colorful prints by Kansas City artist Laura Berman as inspiration. Each student participating will leave with his or her own hand-made print(s), created with the assistance of UCM art education students.
Enrollment is open on a first come, first served basis, with the class limited to 20. There is no charge for the event.
â€œTwenty kids participated in the October Gallery Kids event, and registration is filling up for February,â€쳌 said Christian Cutler, gallery director. â€œWe created this event as a way to reach out to the community in an effort to bring more community members into the UCMâ€™s Gallery of Art and Design, which is a wonderful space to experience regional, national and international visual art and design.â€쳌
Cutler added that gallery exhibits change every three to four weeks. In addition to Gallery Kids, the galleries will be open for visitors. Currently on display is â€œTARGET,â€쳌 an exhibition of new ceramic work by UCM Professor of Ceramics, Joyce Jablonski; â€œRotations,â€쳌 an exhibition of prints by Laura Berman; and â€œVisual Narrative,â€쳌 drawings by David Hicks and Anne Wedler, along with students from Herron School of Art & Design, the University of Alaska Southeast, and the University of Central Missouri.
