Warrensburg Green Tours this Thursday
Celebrate Earth Week and check out some of the "green" things happening all around town!
Beginning from Maple Grove Elementary School (950 Hamilton St.) at 4:00 PM on Thursday the 25th, we'll hear a brief welcome from Principal Finnane and then head off in two directions for two different tours; choose either "Homes and Gardens" or "Buildings and Businesses." Both will end at or just after 6:00 PM back at the elementary school, and a reception and optional tours of the school will follow. Here's a list of the stops:
Homes and Gardens 1. Sterling Elementary School: Eating from the Garden program. 2. Andrea's Yarden: Back yard (and most of the front) converted to an organic vegetable garden, with many heirlooms and lots of reuse. 3. Naturally Green Home: Earth-contact home with lots of native landscaping at Swallow and Zoll. 4. Improved Green Home: Lovely home just outside the city limits with many "green" upgrades.
Buildings and Businesses 1. Lindsay Transmission: New solar array and a plethora of recycling. 2. UCM's NatureCentral (Environmental Education Center): Project Wild, native plants, public education and more. 3. La Xochitl Designs: Wide variety of natural and reusable items for baby/mom/women. 4. Cafe Blackadder: Local/organic produce, reuse and repurposing, solar panels. 5. Arwood's Furniture and Gifts: Literally tons of reused building materials and a huge new solar array. 6. Johnson County Sheltered Workshop: A quick stop to see the recycling center that now includes glass.
The tours are free but reservations are required to email@example.com.
