Ledbetter Plans Spring Visit to UCM

Lilly Ledbetter, who is famous for her persistence in actively pursuing the fight to close the wage gap between men and women, has accepted an invitation from the Department of Government, International Studies and Languages to speak on the UCM campus during Politics and Social Justice Week this spring. The department urges faculty, staff, and students to mark their calendars for the April 3 presentation, which is sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning. Ledbetter's legal claim for equal pay for women was denied by the Supreme Court in the well-known 2007 case Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. However, her leadership and advocacy efforts helped to advance the passage of the 2009 Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act - the first piece of legislation President Obama signed into law. Her efforts to progress gender equality are remarkable.
