Get Ready for Politics and Social Justice Week
UCM is gearing up for Politics and Social Justice Week starting April 3rd after spring break. The week begins with keynote speaker Lilly Ledbetter who is famous for her pursuit for equal pay for women through the well-known 2007 Supreme Court case Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Her leadership and advocacy efforts helped to advance the passage of the 2009 Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act – the first piece of legislation President Barack Obama signed into law.
Mark your calendars, Politics and Social Justice Week also includes other speakers and events April 3rd through April 12th. Other events include two opportunities to view screenings of the film Bully on April 10th and the documentary, Danny from North Korea, on April 11th. Christian Campus House will also be facilitating a food packaging event called Something to Eat, April 8th through 12th in front of Elliot Union. Events are listed below.

Senator Jolie Justus (Women in Politics and Minority Status), at 5pm Thursday, April 4th in Union 237A. Senator David Pearce (Open forum), at 12pm, Friday April 5th in Wood 100. Dr. Wendy Geiger will speak on Social Movements and the LGBTQ Community), at 1pm Monday, April 8th in Union 237A. Dr. Nader Hashemi on Reflections of the Middle East, Monday April 8th, time and place TBA. Dr. Tashel Bordere will speak on African American Homicide and US Education Policy, at 1pm Tuesday, April 9th in Union 237A. Screening of the film Bully,at 3:30pm and again at 6:30pm on Wednesday, April 10th in Union 240. Panel: College Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians will speak on their ideas of equality and justice on April 11th (Room TBA). Screening of the documentary, Danny from North Korea, 4pm Thursday April 11th in WC Morris Auditorium. Dr. Elijah Anderson will speak about his work, The Color Line: Race Relations in the US at 6pm Thursday, April 11th in Union 236. Dr. Tola Pearce will speak about equality, justice and African women at 1pm Friday, April 12th in Union 123.
