MOLLENKAMP RECEIVES OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD
Dr. Julie Mollenkamp received the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri Wayne Brown Award for Outstanding Teacher for 2013-14 at the annual conference at the Lake of the Ozarks on September 20. The Wayne Brown Outstanding Teacher Award recognizes a Speech and Theatre High School or University Instructor who has excelled in the area of teaching and made a significant contribution to the training of speech and theatre students. Dr. Mollenkamp, Professor of Theatre and Dance at the University of Central Missouri was nominated for this award by her former students who are now High School Speech and Theatre Instructors. Her support letters came from current and former students and colleagues. Alisha Morris, Neosho High School Theatre Instructor and Katie Replogle, Raytown High School Theatre Instructor presented her with the award at the Annual Awards Banquet. STAM is an organization which promotes communication and cooperation among members of the speech communication and theatre professions in Missouri and that works to increase professional stature and to improve teaching and scholarship in the communicative arts and sciences. Over 240 members attended this year's conference. Dr. Mollenkamp began teaching at the University of Central Missouri in 2001 and since that time has received numerous teaching awards including the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award and the Faculty Achievement Award, the National Communication Association Theatre Division Excellence in Teaching and Service Award, and the UCM Meridith Harmon Sauer Endowed Distinguished Professor of Theatre Award. At UCM, Mollenkamp teaches theatre courses in the areas of history, management, acting, and directing. She also serves as the graduate coordinator for the Master of Arts degree and the advisor for the Bachelor of Science in Education for Speech Communication and Theatre, The Dr. Ed See Student Teachers Association, and the Black Box Theatre Program. As a director, Mollenkamp will direct A Thai Tale and Kindertransport for the 2013-14 theatre season.
