Freedom Scholarship

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Scholarship began at the University of Central Missouri in 1994. The purpose of the Freedom Scholarship is to provide financial assistance for high school seniors to pursue a college education at UCM. To apply, the student must:

• plan to be a full-time incoming freshman at the University of Central Missouri

• be a high school senior attending a high school located in Johnson County, MO; Sedalia, MO; Kansas City, MO or Kansas City, KS

• have a minimum high school cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale following the seventh semester of high school

• demonstrate financial need

• be a first-generation college student (i.e. parent/guardian never attended college/university)

• demonstrate involvement in leadership and community projects

Application deadline is March 1 with the award being announced at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Scholarship Dinner in January.
