Library Media Certification
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has developed a variety of ways to help individuals earn school library media certification. Those with initial teacher certification will seek an Additional Endorsement. Those with no teacher certification credentials have a variety of ways to receive Initial Certification in school library media. These are described below.
Those who already have teacher certification may contact Margery Tanner at DESE, 573-751-4369. She will evaluate transcripts for course work needed for library media certification.
Initial Certification Requirements: For students who do not have initial teacher certification, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has developed requirements for certification which include professional education requirements and subject area requirements (page 6). Each of these requirements can be met by courses available at the University of Central Missouri. To develop a certification plan, contact Clinical Services and Certification:
