Frederick John Pinne, III

            Known as “Rick” to colleagues and friends in the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies, Frederick John Pinne, III dedicated 29 years to helping students understand legal concepts that apply to businesses. Mr. Pinne has retired as professor emeritus of legal studies.

            A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Pinne entered the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law shortly after a two-year stint, 1968-1970, as an infantry squad leader at a military installation in Alaska. He earned his Juris Doctorate in 1973 from UMKC and passes the Missouri Bar Examination shortly thereafter. He earned a Master of Laws degree in corporate and commercial law in 1976 from UMKC. Mr. Pinne is also an alumnus of the University of Kansas, Lawrence, having graduated there in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

            In pursuit of his first law degree, Mr. Pinne served as a law clerk for two years in the corporate legal department for United Telecommunication, Inc. he came to Central in 1973 as an assistant professor of business administration, was promoted to associate professor in 1977, and full professor in 1982. He became a professor of legal studies in 1989.

            Mr. Pinne taught Business Law classes and also took part in campus governance and committee work. He was the Faculty Senate president who presided over the adoption of the Retrenchment Policy.
