John J. Prince
Central’s Department of Safety Science and Technology has developed a reputation for delivering quality programs with the help of dedicated faculty and staff like Dr. John J. Prince. After 26 years of service to the institution, he has retired as emeritus chair of the department.
Dr. Prince is a Central alumnus who has served the institution in a number of different capacities. He was chair of the Department of Safety Science and Technology from 1997 until his retirement in August. He was the interim chair for four years prior to that appointment, and spent 18 years as the department’s security program coordinator. Other campus positions have included serving as director of the Center for Professional Development and Special Programs for the former School of Public Services, the school’s coordinator of research and development, project director for a Manpower Development Law Enforcement Grant at the Missouri Safety Center, academic advisor in Academic Affairs, and assistant dean of admissions-director of veteran affairs.
The longtime university member has a wealth of professional experiences outside the classroom, including serving the past seven years as Henry County Coroner. He has also served a number of groups on a consultant basis.
Dr. Prince earned his bachelor’s degree at Missouri Southern State College, Joplin, his master’s and education specialist degrees at Central, and his doctorate at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
Dr. Prince and his wife, Jan, are the parents of two daughters, Tracy, and Jenny.
