Faculty Awards Committee


I. FUNCTION

A. To select the recipients of University faculty awards, including the annual Byler Award, and to define the criteria for the selection of University faculty awards

B. To serve as liaison between the Faculty Senate and all University officials involved in the nomination, selection, and recognition of recipients of University faculty awards

C. To organize and complete, in cooperation with the University administration, all activities associated with the nomination, selection, and recognition of recipients of University faculty awards


II. POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Reports to the Faculty Senate


III. MEMBERSHIP

A. Composition (7 members)

1. One tenured, voting faculty member from each college and L/AE

2. Associate Provost (ex officio/non-voting)

3. The previous chair serves a second year in an ex-officio, advisory capacity for the new chair.

B. Selection

1. Tenured faculty members nominated by the Faculty Senate Committee on Committees and confirmed by the Faculty Senate

2. Selection to occur in the spring semester for service in the following academic year

C. Selection of Chair

The committee shall select a chair from its membership.  In order to advise the new chair, the previous chair serves a second year in an ex-officio, advisory capacity.

D. Term of Service

One year with a minimum interval of one year between terms.  Members chosen to serve as Chair adhere to the minimum interval of one year between terms.


IV. COMMENTS

Committee members nominated for awards or members choosing to nominate individuals for awards shall resign from the committee.

The committee chair is responsible for creating and maintaining a Procedures Manual, a copy to be kept in the Faculty Senate Office.
