Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education

Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Most applications for the 2014-2015 academic year must be completed and submitted by March 1, 2014..  Be sure to check below for scholarships that have an application deadline other than March 1.

Name of Scholarship To apply, a student must:
Helen Monroe Bell Scholarship (for incoming freshmen)
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in elementary education
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • demonstrate financial need
  • demonstrate good character and high ethical standards
Helen Monroe Bell Scholarship
  • be a currently enrolled undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • demonstrate financial need
  • demonstrate good character and high ethical standards
Paul E. Brattstrom Scholarship (for incoming freshmen students)
  • be a graduating high school senior
  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in elementary education
Paul E. Brattstrom Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education
Byron and Maxine Chryst Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education or secondary education
  • be a graduate of a high school located in Benton, Henry, Pettis or Johnson County, MO
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of education
  • have a minimum overall cumulative of GPA of 2.5
  • be admitted to the teacher education program
  • demonstrate financial need
E. L. Crayton and Margaret B. Crayton Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education
  • intend to become an elementary school teacher
Mary E., Clara, and Mabel Falke Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of elementary education
  • demonstrate financial need
  • be interested in continuing education at UCM
  • preference shall be given to students who indicate a commitment to teach in the State of Missouri for a minimum of five years
Rudolph and Florentine Grother Scholarship
  • be a graduate of either Northwest High School in Hughesville, MO or a graduate of Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO, or be a graduate of a Pettis County high school or transfer student from State Fair Community College
  • be a full-time student at UCM and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and a major in elementary education
  • have completed at least 24 credit hours
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • be worthy, deserving and show promise of leadership and academic ability
Homer and Marilyn Hampton Scholarship in Mathematics Education
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education or middle school education with a minor in mathematics (grades 5-9)
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in at least two mathematics courses in the mathematics minor program for teaching mathematics in grades 5-9
  • show promise of initiative, leadership and service

James A. Hudson Excellence in Teaching Scholarship

  • be a graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
    be actively pursuing a Master of Science in Education degree in either elementary education, secondary education or reading; individuals pursuing a Master of Science in Education degree within an academic discipline are eligible
  • have an approved master's program of study within the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education or Department of Educational Foundations and Literacy
  • have earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from UCM
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Harriet Quick Little Family Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education
  • be a graduate of a high school located in Cass, Henry, Bates or Johnson County, MO (however, if no applicants from these counties apply or are deemed eligible, all other students shall be considered)
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of elementary education
  • demonstrate financial need
Merle C. and Lillian J. Rider Scholarship in Early Childhood Education
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a teaching degree in early childhood education with an emphasis in music (preschool - 3rd grade)
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in major
  • have basic knowledge of piano
Merle C. and Maxine Rider Scholarship in Early Childhood Education
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in early childhood education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of early childhood education
C.O. and Mildred Putnam Scholarship (for incoming freshmen students)
  • be a graduating senior of a high school located in Moniteau County, MO
  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in elementary teacher education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of teacher education
  • demonstrate financial need
Fannie Faulkner Seevers Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary teacher education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show leadership and academic ability
Dorothy Stockton Sims Scholarship for the Non-Traditional Graduate Student in Elementary Education
  • be a female, non-traditional graduate student at UCM pursuing a Masters Degree in Elementary Education
  • have completed an undergraduate degree at UCM
  • reside in Johnson County, MO (however, if no applicants from Johnson County, MO apply or are deemed eligible, other students meeting criteria shall be considered)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 (see application for details)
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and community service
  • demonstrate financial need
Linda Holman Struchtemeyer Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a major in elementary education, special education, secondary education or industrial technology (to include drafting, graphics, automotive technology, construction management, electronics, and manufacturing management)
  • rank in the upper one-third of graduating senior class
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • score a minimum of 18 on the ACT
  • demonstrate good citizenship through participation in high school activities
  • demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership and character
A. E. Wright International Scholarship (for undergraduate students)
  • be an undergraduate student pursuing an early childhood or elementary education major ((however, if no students pursuing a major in early childhood or elementary education apply or are deemed eligible, other education majors may be considered)
  • be a participant in a UCM affiliated international experience which is one semester or longer
  • application deadline: May 1 and November 1
A. E. Wright International Scholarship (for graduate students)
  • be a graduate student pursuing a degree in early childhood or elementary education (however, if no graduate students pursuing a degree in early childhood or elementary education apply or are deemed eligible, other graduate students pursuing a degree in education may be considered)
  • be a participant in a UCM affiliated international experience which may be less than one semester long
  • application deadline: May 1 and November 1
