Graduate School and Extended Studies

Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Most applications for the 2014-2015 academic year must be completed and submitted by March 1, 2014.  Be sure to check below for scholarships that have an application deadline other than March 1.

Name of Scholarship To apply, a student must:
Dr. Jose Z. & Mrs. Theresa R. Almaguer Family Scholarship
  • be accepted to the University of Central Missouri or be a current full-time undergraduate or graduate student at UCM
  • have a demonstrated interest in Mexican-American heritage, culture and/or community development;
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; graduate GPA of 3.25
  • demonstrate leadership in multi-cultural clubs and/or community projects;
  • demonstrate financial need
  • if selected, must participate in the UCM Academic Enrichment class mentorship program;
  • this scholarship is not renewable; however, former recipients may reapply each year provided they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
  • the qualified recipient must be committed to working toward the enhancement of the Hispanic/Latino community by mentoring andencouragingthe academic achievement of other Hispanic/Latino youth.
ARAMARK Facility Services MBA Scholarship
  • have received a baccalaureate degree from UCM and be or plan to be a full-time graduate student at UCM
  • be in good academic standing
  • be enrolled in the Master's of Business Administration Degree program
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Margaret Whitsett Atkins Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be a graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics education
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Bennie Bargen Scholarship in Accounting
  • a student must be full time undergraduate student or full time graduate student (with at least 12 hours remaining) in good academic standing and;

  • be pursuing a degree in accounting;

  • hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
  • be of good moral character;
  • Preference will be given to students who meet all three criteria; however, selection committee may nominate candidate who meets two (2) requirements if no candidate meets all three.

  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in English
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • demonstrate financial need
Lyle B. and Evelyn E. Beaver Scholarship in Recreation
  • be a junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in recreation or a related field
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of recreation
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in major
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
Susan and Steven Beebe Debate Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a major or minor within the Department of Communication
  • be involved in the forensics program at UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
Dr. William Bell Scholarship for Student Teachers
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM preparing for semester of student teaching
  • be pursuing a degree in teacher education
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • demonstrate financial need
BKD LLP Accounting Education Scholarship
  • be an undergraduate student that has completed his/her junior year by May and be pursuing a degree in accounting OR be a graduate student pursuing a MBA with an accounting concentration or MA
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.25 or a minimum of 3.5 in the most recent 30 hours completed
  • demonstrate leadership and service to campus organizations
Bill P. Colvin Criminal Justice Scholarship
  • be a full- or part-time graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in criminal justice

Ada Franklin DeWitt Bennett Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM

C. James Britton Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing
  • be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree within the Department of Sociology and Social Work
  • have earned a minimum of 9 semester credit hours
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.75 in all coursework completed by the end of the semester in which application is submitted

Edith M. Brooks Scholarship in Music

  • be a full-time junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in music education or organ music

Charles and Mary Ann Brown Scholarship in Education
  • be a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in teacher education

George and Evelyn Brucks Scholarship
  • be a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in good acadmic standing at UCM

Marion B. Davies Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a music major or a degree in music whose primary performance instrument is the piano
  • demonstrate dedication to the piano as his/her major instrument, a strong work ethic, musical talent and achievement
  • be enrolled in piano lessons at UCM
John Dralus Memorial Scholarship
  • be a former student-athlete pursuing a graduate degree (see application for details)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.75 or a minimum GPA set by the graduate degree program being pursued
  • present a history and ability in leadership and demonstrate team spirit

Rider C. and J. Lavenia Edwards Memorial Scholarship

  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM

Colie and Georgia Ervin Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM

  • be a full-time sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM

Mary E., Clara and Mabel Falke Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Jon Ferguson Music Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • demonstrate good character, outstanding singing or conducting potential, excellent musicianship, a commitment to service, a record of proven academic ability, and the promise of leadership in the field of music
  • be an active participant in the choral program at UCM
  • be enrolled in voice lessons
Suzanne Foster Scholarship in Library Science
  • be a full- or part-time graduate student in good academic standing pursuing a degree in library science
  • have completed at least one (1) semester of the graduate program in library science
  • have a minimum graduate cumulative GPA of 3.5 in the first nine (9) hours
  • have a sound understanding of technology in education, information literacy and library instruction practices
  • demonstrate high ethical standards, responsibility, leadership and achievement
  • intend to continue education at UCM

Adrian and Margaret Harmon Business Graduate Scholarship
  • be a full-time graduate student in good academic standing pursuing a Master's degree in the Harmon College of Business at UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • show strong leadership, success and service
  • earn a minimum of 9 credit hours for each semester (fall/spring) to be eligible to continue to receive the scholarship OR be in the last semester of his/her graduate degree program

John Hess Health Professions Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing
  • be pursuing a graduate degree in a health profession
  • demonstrate leadership ability

  • have applied to a health professions graduate degree program

Dr. Aileen Helmick Memorial Scholarship

  • have completed one semester of the graduate degree program in library science
  • have a minimum overall cumulative graduate GPA of 3.5 in the first 9 hours of coursework
  • have a sound understanding of intellectual freedom and censorship issues
  • demonstrate high ethical standards, responsibility, leadership and achievement

  • have completed one semester of the graduate program in counseling

Richard N. Holden Graduate Scholarship

  • be a full-time graduate student or have been accepted into the graduate program in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a Master's of Science Degree in criminal justice
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in major
J. M. Hopping Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in chemistry
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0

James A. Hudson Excellence in Teaching Scholarship
  • be a graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be actively pursuing a Master's of Science in Education Degree in either elementary education, secondary education or reading

  • have earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from UCM
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Robert I. Jaquith Law Scholarship
  • have received an undergraduate degree from UCM (or be scheduled to receive such degree) by September 1,

  • provide proof of admission to an A.B.A. approved Law School;

Herbert H. Jones Industrial Hygiene Scholarship
  • be a full-time second-year graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in industrial hygiene at UCM

  • demonstrate financial need

Homer Kempfer Scholarship

  • be an international student who is a citizen of a Central American country (however, if no students from a Central American country apply or are deemed eligible, secondary consideration shall be given to an international student who is a citizen of a Latin American country)
  • be a full-time graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a graduate degree in teacher education
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.1 in his/her major

Dr. Norman Key Safety Scholarship

  • have received an undergraduate degree prior to June 1 of the year the scholarship is awarded and must have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5 and 3.0 in his/her major (see application for details)
  • have been admitted to the Graduate School and a safety-related program at UCM
  • demonstrate a high record of scholastic achievement as an undergraduate student
  • demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities
  • possess high standards of character as evidenced by the statements of peers, employers and instructors
Kinkead Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in English
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a 3.25 in all English coursework
  • demonstrate leadership and service
Dr. Harold L. Lawson Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM and have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours
  • be active in the intercollegiate forensics program at UCM (preference shall be given to students competing in debate)

  • show promise of leadership, dedication and academic ability in the field of forensics and debate
Warren C. Lovinger Graduate Student Scholarship

  • be a minority student as recognized by the U.S. Federal Government (African American, Latino, Native American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Multi-Racial)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.75
H. Keith Stumpff Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics or mathematics education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics or mathematics education

Taiwan Commemorative Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in industrial technology (second preference shall be given to a student pursuing a major in a related program within the School of Technology: automotive technology management, computer-aided drafting and design technology, electronics technology, engineering technology, graphic arts technology management)

William G. and Margaret Douglas Tally Scholarship
  • be a full-time senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the field of business

Alfred E. Twomey Graduate Scholarship in History
  • be a graduate student in good academic standing at UCM

UCM Navy V-12 Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have been or planning for a military career or have a parent or relative that has been associated with the military (see application for details)
  • demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and high scholastic achievement
  • possess high standards of character as evidenced by the statements of peers, employers and instructors

William L. Vacek Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award
  • The Vacek Award is awarded to a graduate student within the College of Science and Technology that has conducted outstanding research

Wake Island Defenders Memorial Scholarship

  • be a graduate student enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester at UCM
  • be a descendant of a Wake Island Defender (however, if no descendants of Wake Island Defenders apply or are deemed eligible, second preference shall be given to a student who is actively involved in the ROTC program at UCM or pursuing a degree in social studies and/or history)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • be of high moral character
  • be a U.S. citizen
Webb Chinese American Scholarship (for incoming Chinese students)
  • be a Chinese student attending or accepted for attendance to any graduate degree program at UCM
  • be pursuing a marketable degree
  • be a qualified, serious student in good academic standing
  • demonstrate financial need
Webb Chinese American Scholarship (for study abroad)
  • be a UCM student who has completed a minimum of 2 years of study at UCM
  • be accepted for study at any accredited University in mainland China

  • be a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a B.A., B.S., M.S., or B.S. in Education degree, majoring in biology
  • be a resident of a county in the greater Kansas City, Missouri metro area (Jackson, Clay, Platte, Cass); however, if no students from these areas apply or are deemed eligible, other applicants shall be considered
  • demonstrate financial need

  • be a graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in early childhood or elementary education (however, if no students pursuing a degree in early childhood or elementary education apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to other graduate students pursuing a degree in education)
  • be a participant in a UCM affiliated international experience which may be less than one semester long
  • Application deadline: November 1 and May 1
