Department of Nutrition and Kinesiology

Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Most applications for the 2012-2013 academic year must be delivered or postmarked by March 1, 2012 to the address printed on the application.  Be sure to check below for scholarships that have an application deadline other than March 1.

Name of Scholarship To apply, a student must:
Dr. Mildred Barnes Scholarship
  • be a female undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have competed as a student athlete or currently holding a graduate assistant coaching position for Jennies Athletics
  • be pursuing a degre ein physical education
  • be within 24 credit hours of completing degree from UCM (if undergraduate student)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 25 if seeking teaching certification within the physical education degree program; or, have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0 if studying fitness and wellness within the physical education degree program
  • have completed eligibility as defined by NCAA regulations
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service

Lyle B. and Evelyn E. Beaver Scholarship in Recreation

  • be a junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in recreation (if an undergraduate student) or a degree in recreation or a related field (if a graduate student)
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of recreation
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in major
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
William and Dorothy Brewster and Nancy Saunders-Cromer Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in physical education
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • show promise of leadership and service
  • preference shall be given to married student
Shelby and Marjorie Brightwell Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • be (or will be) a graduate of a high school located in Independence, MO or Jackson County, MO
  • rank in the upper one-third of high school graduating class
  • plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology (programs include: athletic training, corporate fitness, exercise science, physical education-teaching, recreation, tourism
  • demonstrate financial need
Dr. Eldo and Viola Hendricks Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in teacher education in women's physical education or a degree in chemistry
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in major
Hospitality Management Association Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in consumer services management (see application for details)
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in major
  • be an active member of the UCM Hospitality Management Association
  • be enrolled in a minimum of two credit hours within the Department of Health and Human Performance
Jessie B. Jutten Physical Education Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in physical education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of physical education
Teresa A. Roberts Scholarship
  • be a full-time female student in good academic standing at UCM (however, if no female students apply or are deemed eligible, male students shall be considered)
  • be pursuing a degree in teacher education with an emphasis in physical education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of physical education
  • demonstrate financial need

M. Ruth Sevy Memorial Scholarship

  • be a full-time female student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have completed a minimum of 48 credit hours
  • be a resident of the State of Missouri
  • have graduated from a high school within the State of Missouri
  • be pursuing a degree in physical education
  • have been admitted to the teacher education program
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of physical education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
Dr. Robert Tompkins Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in the field of physical education including the related areas of physical fitness, health and wellness (see application for details)
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of physical education
  • be a member of a student organization for physical education majors
  • demonstrate financial need
Dr. Ronald VanDam Student Athletic Training Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in athletic training with an interest in becoming a certified athletic trainer
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
Clarence M. and Christine M. Whiteman Memorial Scholarship
  • be a junior or senior student in good academic standing
  • be a physical education major pursuing a B.S. degree
  • maintain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership and service in campus activities
  • demonstrate financial need
  • be interested in continuing education at UCM
John Hess Health Professions Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing
  • be pursuing a graduate degree in a health profession
  • demonstrate leadership ability
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.5
  • participate in social/service organizations and/or extracurricular activities
  • have applied to a health professions graduate degree program
  • preference given to students pursuing a health professions graduate degree in the following areas: Medical, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dental
  • Application Deadline: March 1
Hospitality Management Association Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in consumer services management (see application for details)
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in major
  • be an active member of the UCM Hospitality Management Association
  • be enrolled in a minimum of two credit hours within the Department of Health and Human Performance
Regina Myers McClain Scholarship
  • be a student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in dietetics and nutrition at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
  • preference given to students who are active in the Student Dietetic Association (SDA), have at least 20 volunteer hours in nutrition-related services and have a minimum GPA of 3.0
Regina Myers McClain Distinguished Scholarship
  • be a junior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in the field of dietetics and nutrition at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
  • be an active of the American Dietetic Association and the Student Dietetic Association (SDA)
  • have a minimum of 50 volunteer hours in, but not limited to, hospital/nursing home-based experience, public health or community nutrition experience, food service-related experience
  • have an overall minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.75 in major
  • preference shall be given to a student holding a leadership role in SDA, demonstrating professional interest and active in extracurricular activities

Elizabeth Collings Weekley Scholarship
  • be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in family and consumer sciences or dietetics and nutrition (first preference shall be given to a student pursuing a degree in FACS, however, if no students pursuing a degree in FACS apply or are deemed eligible, second preference shall be given to a student pursuing a degree in dietetics and nutrition)
  • demonstrate high morals
  • have a positive, pleasing personality
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in major
  • have excellent grooming habits and demonstrate potential of superior professional appearance
  • be a non-user of tobacco and drugs
  • demonstrate self-discipline and leadership and have the desire to make contributions to society
