Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Most applications for the 2014-2015 academic year must be completed and submitted by March 1, 2014.  Be sure to check below for scholarships that have an application deadline other than March 1.

Name of Scholarship To apply, a student must:
ACM Merit Scholarship
  • be a junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours at UCM
  • declare a functional major in mathematics or computer science
  • be an active member of the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
  • plan to enroll each semester in a mathematics or computer science course pertinent to the declared major
Margaret Whitsett Atkins Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be a graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics education
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Velma Birkhead Mathematics Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
    be pursuing a degree in mathematics (preference shall be given to students seeking certification to teach mathematics in the junior high classroom)
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
CenturyLink University of Central Missouri Scholarship (for incoming freshmen students)
  • be a graduating high school senior and plan to attend UCM
  • be accepted to UCM
  • reside within the CenturyLink service area
  • plan to pursue a major within the area(s) of education, science/environment, business/economics, marketing and/or math/computer science
  • have a minimum overall cumulative high school GPA of 3.0
CenturyLink University of Central Missouri Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student, or, be the spouse of a military person
  • be accepted and enrolled at UCM
  • reside within the CenturyLink service area
  • be pursuing a major within the area(s) of education, science/environment, business/economics, marketing and/or math/computer science
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
Claude Brown Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in the second or third year of study at UCM
  • be pursuing an undergraduate degree in mathematics
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in mathematics and an overall cumulative GPA of 3.3
  • show promise (but not necessarily intent) in pursuing post-graduate study
  • demonstrate financial need

Harold and Marjorie A. Cooper Scholarship

  • be a full-time student at UCM and show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • awarded to recipient of the Claude H. Brown Kappa Mu Epsilon Freshman Mathematics Achievement Award
  • no application necessary, see Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for more information
Harold and Sherralyn Craven Scholarship in Actuarial Science
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in actuarial science
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of actuarial science
Dr. H. Wallace Griffith Scholarship in Computer Science
  • be a full-time junior or senior in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in computer science (however, if no students pursuing a degree in computer science apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to students pursuing a degree in mathematics)
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of computer science
Homer and Marilyn Hampton Scholarship in Mathematics Education
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in elementary education or middle school education with a minor in mathematics (grades 5-9)
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in at least two mathematics courses in the mathematics minor program for teaching mathematics grades 5-9
  • show promise of initiative, leadership and service
Mildred I. Harmon Scholarship (for incoming freshmen students)
  • be a graduating high school senior planning to attend UCM
  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a major in computer science or electronics (preference shall be given to a student planning to pursue a double major in computer science and electronics)
  • have a minimum ACT score of 23
  • have completed three units of mathematics and/or computer science in high school
  • demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership and character
  • be a resident of Missouri (preference shall be given to students residing within the original 21 county catchment area of UCM, see application for details)
Mildred I. Harmon Scholarship
  • be a full-time student at UCM pursuing a major in computer science or electronics (preference shall be given to a student planning to pursue a double major in computer science and electronics)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership and character
  • be a resident of Missouri (preference shall be given to students residing within the original 21 county catchment area of UCM, see application for details)
Mattie and Mary Louise Hull Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics, computer science and/or science education with the intent to teach or be pursuing a degree in art or art education
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Mary Anne Kennedy Scholarship (for incoming freshmen students)
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in the field of mathematics and computer science
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in one of the programs in the field of mathematics and computer science
Mary Anne Kennedy Scholarship for Upperclassmen
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in the field of mathematics and computer science
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics and computer science
Frank E. Martin Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in physics (however, if no students pursuing a degree in physics apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to students pursuing a degree in mathematics)
  • show promise of academic ability
  • demonstrate financial need

LeRoy and Doris McLaughlin Scholarship

  • be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics education
  • demonstrate financial need
Barbara Ulrich Mathematics Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a minor in mathematics
  • be seeking certification to teach mathematics in grades 5-9
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in mathematics courses taken
Ruth Alwell Moore Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics or mathematics education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in major
Nance Family Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in physics, chemistry or mathematics
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of physics, chemistry or mathematics
  • participate in worthwhile campus organizations and activities and have exhibited good citizenship qualities
  • intend to enter the teaching profession (however, if no students intending to enter the teaching profession apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to all other students pursuing a degree in physics, chemistry or mathematics not planning to enter the teaching profession)
Dr. Cynthia Ramey Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (BSE) with an emphasis in secondary mathematics or be pursuing a mathematics education minor
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all math courses taken
  • be active in campus and community organizations
Bynum H. Redford Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior student in good academic standing at UCM and have at least two semesters remaining before graduation
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics (not to include actuarial science or secondary education mathematics)
  • be a U.S. citizen and a resident of the State of Missouri
  • have completed at least one semester as a declared mathematics major
  • be a member in good standing of Kappa Mu Epsilon
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in mathematics courses taken
Helen Louise Campbell Richards Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in political science, mathematics or computer information systems
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of political science, mathematics or computer information systems
  • be of Christian faith
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • not have police record (other than minor traffic violations) and shall not have been involved in any disciplinary action with authorities at UCM
Gerald C. Schrag Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics
  • be a member of the UCM mathematics honor organization, Kappa Mu Epsilon
Karen A. Schultz Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics or mathematics education
  • demonstrate financial need
  • show promise of leadership and academic proficiency in the field of mathematics
  • preference shall be given to a femal student; however, if no female students apply or if applicants are not eligible, male students shall be considered.
Peg Seifner Scholarship (for incoming freshmen students)
  • be a high school senior at Morgan County R-1 High School and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a major in mathematics (however, if no students planning to pursue a major in mathematics apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to other students meeting criteria)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA o f3.0
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability

H. Keith Stumpff Scholarship

  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics or mathematics education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics or mathematics education
  • demonstrate financial need
John W. White Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics
  • demonstrate financial need
Robert L. Wild Family Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of physics or mathematics
  • be an athlete representing UCM in NCAA competition
Luroff H. Williams Mathematics Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in mathematics education
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of mathematics education
  • demonstrate financial need
Yvonne Leach Skouby Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Mathematics or Math Education
  • be a full time student in good academic standing
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
