Miscellaneous Scholarships for Any Major

Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Most applications for the 2014-2015 academic year must be completed and submitted by March 1, 2014.  Be sure to check below for scholarships that have an application deadline other than March 1.

Name of Scholarship To apply, a student must:
Dr. Jose Z. & Mrs. Theresa R. Almaguer Family Scholarship
  • be accepted to the University of Central Missouri or be a current full-time undergraduate or graduate student at UCM
  • have a demonstrated interest in Mexican-American heritage, culture and/or community development;
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; graduate GPA of 3.25
  • demonstrate leadership in multi-cultural clubs and/or community projects;
  • demonstrate financial need;
  • if selected, must participate in the UCM Academic Enrichment class mentorship program.
  • this scholarship is not renewable; however, former recipients may reapply each year provided they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
  • the qualified recipient must be committed to working toward the enhancement of the Hispanic/Latino community by mentoring and encouraging the academic achievement of other Hispanic/Latino youth.
ARAMARK Facilities Services Employee Scholarship
  • be a part-time or full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • be a part-time employee of the UCM Physical Plant, or be a spouse or dependent child of a full-time employee of the UCM Physical Plant
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Armstrong Family Scholarship
  • be a non traditional student (at least 25 years of age);
  • be a single parent
  • demonstrate financial need
  • Deadline of November 1
Louise H. Baker Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
  • have an avid interest in golf
Ada Franklin DeWitt Bennett Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • demonstrate financial need
Beta Sigma Psi-Pi Chapter Alumni Scholarship (for incoming freshmen students)
  • be accepted to UCM
  • have a religious affiliation with the Lutheran Church
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • be a child of a Beta Sigma Psi-Pi Chapter alumnus (however, if no children of a Beta Sigma Psi-Pi Chapter alumnus apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to all other applicants meeting specified criteria)
Beta Sigma Psi-Pi Chapter Alumni Scholarship (for current students)
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have a religious affiliation with the Lutheran Church
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • be a child of a Beta Sigma Psi-Pi Chapter alumnus (however, if no children of a Beta Sigma Psi-Pi Chapter alumnus apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to all other applicants meeting specified criteria)
Renee T. Betz Scholarship for Women Scholars
  • be a full-time or part-time undergraduate female student in good academic standing pursuing a degree in the liberal arts
  • be a freshman (have completed at least 15 or more credit hours at UCM), sophomore, junior or senior at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
Boisseau Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and have been accepted to UCM
  • be a permanent resident of Johnson County, MO (however, if no residents of Johnson County, MO apply or are deemed eligible, all other applicants shall be considered)
  • demonstrate superior academic scholarship
  • demonstrate financial need
A. Ralph Boxell N0OHD Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student at UCM
  • hold a valid amateur radio license
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • preference shall be given to a student(s) enrolled in an electronics and/or radio-related class
A. Ralph Boxell Eagle Scout Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America
  • be a member of the Order of the Arrow and/or Mic-O-Say of the Boy Scouts of America
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • demonstrate service contributions and active participation in church and Boy Scout troop
John Bradley Public Broadcasting Scholarship
  • be a full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM (if no junior or senior students apply or are deemed eligible, other applicants shall be considered)
  • be working as a volunteer or paid assistant at KMOS-TV or KTGB-FM
  • exhibit dependable and valuable service to KMOS-TV and/or KTGB-FM
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • demonstrate leadership and academic ability in the field of public broadcasting
George and Evelyn Brucks Scholarship
  • be a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be a graduate of St. Mary's School in Glasgow, Missouri
CenturyLink University of Central Missouri Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student at UCM, or be the spouse of a military person
  • be accepted and enrolled at UCM
  • reside within the CenturyLink service area
  • be pursuing a major within the area(s) of: education, science/environment, business/economics, marketing and/or math/computer science
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
CenturyLink University of Central Missouri Scholarship (for incoming freshmen)
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • reside within the CenturyLink service area
  • plan to pursue a major within the area(s) of education, science/environment, business/economics, marketing and/or math/computer science
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
Vickie Cox-Coleman Scholarship
  • be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be a graduate of Warrensburg High School in Warrensburg, MO
  • be a female student
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.5 and a minimum GPA of 3.75 in major
  • demonstrate financial need
Alpha Omicron Pi - Jessie Marie Cramer Scholarship
  • be a full-time female student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be a member of Alpha Omicron Pi (however, if no members of Alpha Omicron Pi apply or are deemed eligible, other applicants shall be considered)
Earle F. and Clara L. Low Scholarship
  • be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • show promise of leadership and exhibit potential, through academic achievement and campus involvement, for successfully earning a college degree
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
Tom D. Edmunds Scholarship
  • be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have been born and residing in the state of Missouri
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • demonstrate financial need

Rider C. and J. Lavenia Edwards Memorial Scholarship

  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • show promise of leadership and service
Colie and Georgia Ervin Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • demonstrate financial need
Tolivar H. Franklin Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • demonstrate financial need
Freedom Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM and have at least two semesters remaining before graduation
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • demonstrate promise and merit in leadership
  • demonstrate financial need
  • demonstrate active involvement in community building at UCM
Gina Galetti Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be an active member of Sigma Kappa social sorority; Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity; dependent child living with a firefighter who is a member of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department and who is a member of Local 421AFF (International Association of Firefighters); a graduate of North Kansas City High School or a currently enrolled full-time student at UCM
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • be actively involved in campus and community activities
Roy D. Geary Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be graduate of Lafayette County C-1 High School in Higginsville, MO, or be a graduate of Holden High School in Holden, MO (however, if no applicants from Lafayette County C-1 High School or Holden High School apply or are deemed eligible, other applicants may be considered)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • demonstrate financial need
Alice M. Gower Re-Entry Student Scholarship
  • be a full- or part-time student at UCM
  • be a non-traditional or re-entry student (one whose education was interrupted either after high school or while in college)
  • have completed at least 90 semester credit hours
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service

John and Fran Gruver Family Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
Reid Hemphill Outstanding Graduate Student Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a graduate degree
  • be a student in good standing in his/her final year of graduate studies
  • demonstrate good character, citizenship, leadership and service in University, community and professional organizations
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.75 for all graduate work attempted
  • have demonstrated high performance in research
Fred Hunt Public Broadcasting Scholarship
  • be a part-time or full-time junior or senior student in good academic standing at UCM (however, if no junior or senior students apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to freshman and/or sophomore students)
  • be working as a volunteer or paid assistant at KMOS-TV (preference given to student(s) working in or with the Master Control Operations)
  • exhibit dependable and valuable service to KMOS-TV
  • demonstrate leadership and academic ability in the field of public broadcasting
Katzentine/Carswell/Cheatham Scholarship
  • be an undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • demonstrate financial need
Aaron M. Kreeger Memorial Scholarship (for incoming freshmen)
  • must be accepted to UCM in good academic standing
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • demonstrate an interest in bowling

  • must be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing a degree in any field

Warren C. Lovinger Graduate Student Scholarship
  • must have received an undergraduate degree from UCM prior to June 1
  • must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours of undergraduate credit at UCM
  • must be admitted to the UCM Graduate School
  • if applicant has begun graduate study prior to April 1, the student must have a minimum of 16 semester hours of graduate credit remaining on the graduate program and must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.75 on all study completed
  • demonstrate a high record of scholastic achievement and outstanding leadership abilities in campus activities while an undergraduate student at UCM
  • possess high standards of character as evidenced by the statements of peers, employers and instructors
Ralph J. Martz Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing
  • demonstrate financial need
UCM Navy V-12 Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at UCM
  • have been or planning for a military career or have a parent or relative that has been associated with the military
  • demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and high scholastic achievement
  • posses high standards of character as evidenced by the statements of peers, employers and instructors
  • demonstrate financial need
Jack and Aggie O'Brien Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student at UCM
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of his/her choice
  • demonstrate financial need
Margaret C. Palmer Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman or a full-time undergraduate student at UCM
  • be a graduate of Elsberry High School located in Elsberry, MO
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • rank in the upper 40% of high school graduation class or have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
Province Family Christian Leadership Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • demonstrate involvement within a Christian faith community
Dova Lee Shelton Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time female student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • demonstrate financial need
Sisters of Ujima Helen Guyton Warren Scholarship
  • be a full-time female undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be an African American student
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in her selected field of study
  • be actively involved in community service in the Warrensburg community
  • demonstrate financial need
Jayme Parks-Soulis Memorial Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be a participant in an international experience in France which is one semester or longer (however, if no applicants planning an international experience in France apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to other applicants planning an international experience elsewhere that is one semester or longer)
  • demonstrate leadership, good character and academic ability
Student Disaster Relief Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be currently experiencing urgent financial need as a result of a natural disaster that affects the ability to attend UCM
Student Diversity Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing pursuing a degree at UCM and have at least two semesters remaining before graduation
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • preference given to a minority student as recognized by the U.S. Federal Government (African American, Latino, Native American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Multi-Racial)
Support Staff Educational Award
  • be an undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be enrolled in at least one class (or a minimum of one credit hour)
  • be employed as a member of teh Support Staff at UCM which is defined as a regular full-time or part-time non-exempt employee
  • have been employed at UCM for at least six (6) months
Swezy Family Scholarship
  • be a non-traditional student (at least 25 years of age) in good academic standing at UCM
  • be worthy and deserving
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • demonstrate financial need
Kozaburo and Hidejiro Teno Scholarship
  • be a full-time student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be pursuing coursework which will enable him/her to promote international relations; first preference shall be given to student(s) interested in promoting relations between the United States and Japan, second preference shall be given to student(s) interested in promoting relations between the United States and other Asian countries
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
UCM University Women Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students
  • be a non-traditional student (at least 25 years of age) in good academic standing and enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at UCM
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • demonstrate financial need
  • be a single parent (however, if no single parents apply or are deemed eligible, other applicants shall be considered)
Zelma Fabra VanderLinden Opportunity Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
Wake Island Defenders Memorial Scholarship
  • be an undergraduate student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester at UCM or be a graduate student enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester at UCM
  • be a descendant of a Wake Island Defender (if no descendants of a Wake Island Defender apply or are deemed eligible, second preference shall be given to a student who is actively involved in the ROTC Program at UCM or who is pursuing a degree in social studies and/or history at UCM)
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • be of high moral character
  • be a U.S. citizen
Ellen Gross Wood Scholarship
  • be a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
World War II Memorial Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • rank in the upper 15% of high school graduating class
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability

Tom Shaffer Memorial Scholarship For Facilities, Planning and Operations
  • be a full- or part-time employee, or child of an employee, of UCM Facilities, Planning and Operations (preference shall be given to an employee; if no employees apply or are deemed ineligible, secondary consideration shall be given to a child of an employee)
  • demonstrate financial need
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
Tom Shaffer Memorial Scholarship for Custodial Staff
  • be a full- or part-time employee, or child of an employee, of UCM Facilities, Planning and Operations' custodial staff (preference shall be given to an employee; if no employees apply or are deemed ineligible, secondary consideration shall be given to a child of an employee)
