General Studies Degree Requirements

Students pursuing the General Studies program must meet all regular graduation requirements.  Depending on the catalog year followed by the student, these requirements may vary slightly.  The General Studies program began in 2009, so students on older catalogs may not change to this major unless they also update to a more recent catalog.  To qualify for a catalog year, the student must have attended UCM during that catalog year.

The general graduation requirements for students following the 2011 and later catalogs are:

  • Student must have a minimum of 120 earned hours for the degree program, 30 must be from UCM

  • Student must have 30 overall upper-level (3000/4000) hours, 20 from UCM

  • The General Studies major must consist of a minimum of 43 hours, 15 from UCM

  • The major must contain 12 upper-level hours, 9 from UCM

  • Major hours may overlap with courses used in the general education, with the exception of ENGL 1020/1030/1080 and the MATH course used to fulfill general education.

  • Cumulative GPA, UCM GPA, and Major GPA must be at least 2.00 (same for minor, if chosen)

  • All General Education Program requirements must be met (48 credit hours).

  • Minor, if chosen, must contain 9 hours at UCM and at least 1 hour of upper-level credit at UCM

  • Student must pass General Education Assessment (GEA) exam

  • The last 12 hours of the degree must be completed through UCM
