Scholarship Information

Achievement Awards
Achievement awards are awarded in both Fall and Spring semesters to undergraduates majoring or minoring in History, Anthropology, Social Studies, and Africana Studies.  The amount awarded is usually from $100 to $300 per semester, depending on the number of applicants and the amount of money the Department is allotted per academic year.

Ruthe Boles Koenig Memorial Scholarship
The Koenig Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a BS in Education degree, with an emphasis on teaching history.  Recipient must be a full time undergraduate student with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all history classes taken.  Preference should be given to an incoming freshman. 

The amount of the award varies but has been as much as $1000.   The scholarship is available for renewal for up to four years as long as satisfactory progress toward a degree in education is being made.

Demand Scholarship in Social Studies
The Demand Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded annually, usually in two payments of $250 each, one in Fall and one in Spring Semester.  To be eligible, a student must be full-time in good academic standing at UCM, must be pursuing a degree in social studies, must be of junior or senior class designation, and must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.25 in his or her social studies major.

Alfred E. Twomey Undergraduate Scholarship in History
The Twomey undergraduate scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded annually.  To be eligible, a student must be full-time in good academic standing at UCM, must be pursuing a degree in history, must be of junior or senior class designation, and must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.25 in his or her history major.

Arthur F. McClure II Archives Scholarship
The McClure Archives Scholarship is awarded periodically, and the amount, at least $500, can vary.  To be eligible a student must be full-time in good academic standing at UCM, must be pursuing a degree in history with an interest in historical archives, must be of junior or senior class designation or a graduate student, must demonstrate leadership and service, and must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in his or her major.  The recipient will be requested to work during the semester for a minimum of 40 hours in the McClure Archives.  The requested 40 hours may be met as a volunteer, a paid employee, or a paid or unpaid intern.

Alfred E. Twomey Graduate Scholarship in History
The Twomey graduate scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded annually.  To be eligible, a student must be full-time in good academic standing at UCM, must be pursuing an MA degree inhistory,and must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.25.
