Jazz & Commercial Music
UCM's two jazz ensembles, Jazz Ensemble 1 and Jazz Ensemble 2, are open by audition to any interested student. Auditions are held at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. Dates will be posted on the Bands Calendar.
In the Spring of 1999 Jazz Ensemble 1 appeared at the MMEA Convention, Tan-tar-a, Missouri, being selected through competitive taped audition.
Guest artists and groups appear regularly at Central Missouri as part of the
UCM Jazz Festival. These appearances include: The Yellowjackets, Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau, Kevin Mahogany, Ahmad Aladeen, The Scamps, The Count Basie Orchestra, The Woody Herman Orchestra, Kim Richmond, Clay Jenkins, and Herbie Mann, Arthur Lipner, Paul Wertico, and David Samuels among others.
