Auditions: The audition process for the Marching Mules Drumline involves two steps.

 

Preliminary Audition (for new or transfer students only; does not include PIT or cymbals)


NEW STUDENTS (Step #1 - Preliminary Audition):

1. Freshman, transfer, or anyone who did not participate during the current academic year, must audition for a guaranteed position with the 2009 Drumline.  This preliminary audition may be satisfied in any of the following ways:

                     a.  Auditioning during Scholarship Audition days (February 2009).
                     b.  By appointment with
Dr. Sekelsky (spring or summer).
                     c.  By submitting an audition tape (DVD preferred).


2.  Students should prepare the Prescribed Audition Music for their primary area of interest only.


ALL DRUMLINE MEMBERS (Step #2 - Placement Auditions):

Final instrument placement auditions are held during the first one or two sessions of Preseason Drumline Camp (see schedule below).  To audition for:

• Examples are intended to be performed at quarter = 120 bpm.
• Every auditioner will also sight-read a short excerpt.

PIT members are not required to audition. Students are considered for positions until maximum positions have been filled (10 PIT). Please contact Dr. Michael J. Sekelsky if you are interested in a PIT position.


Expectations:
Drumline members must attend the Pre-season Drumline Camp listed above in order to perform with the 2009 Drumline, unless absence is pre-approved by Dr. Sekelsky


Sectionals:  Drumline battery members must meet for a mandatory 1-hour sectional each week, outside of the scheduled marching band time. The meeting time is scheduled in advance from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Tuesdays.

 

Post-season:  Drumline members that are receiving scholarships in music, and/or are music majors, must continue in Symphonic Band at the conclusion of the regular marching season. Please note the potential post-season NCAA Tournaments performance(s) and the policy in the Marching Mules Handbook.

Uniforms and Equipment: Central Missouri provides all drumline equipment and uniforms, except for the standard uniform accessories that must be purchased by all members. All members receive 1 pair of sticks or mallets at the beginning of the season. Additional sticks and mallets must be purchased by students.
