Music Facilities
An All-Steinway School
The Department of Music is housed in two separate buildings, the Utt
Music building and the Hudson Music Hall. These
buildings are easily accessible by way of the Hwy. 13 overpass. The two
buildings combine to provide the following inventory of classroom, studio, and
rehearsal spaces:
9 classrooms (three of these are also counted as
ensemble rehearsal rooms below)
23 faculty teaching studios and offices
32
student practice rooms
3 ensemble rehearsal rooms (includes Hudson 115 as an
auxiliary rehearsal space)
1 music listening library
4 storage facilities
1 administrative office suite
In addition, three performance spaces are
available to the Department:
Hart Recital Hall (a
379-seat recital hall within the Utt Music building)
Hendricks Hall
(the university's 1410-seat auditorium near the Utt building)
Sandra
Temple Elliot Ballroom (in the Ed Elliot University Union--flexible
seating)
Hudson Music Hall
In August of 1998,
the Hudson Music Hall opened. This space--the renovated 1st floor of a former
residence hall--now provides the department with nine full-time faculty studios,
one part-time faculty studio, one classroom (48-seat capacity), two practice
rooms, the recording studio, a percussion studio with a suite of teaching,
office, storage rooms and a separate large practice room (lower level), an
instrument repair workroom, and a faculty workroom. Each full-time faculty
studio in Hudson is spacious, has windows to allow natural light, and contains a
piano, a computer and a CD/dual cassette stereo unit.
The classroom,
Hudson 114, is a multi-media room with computer, sound system, and an overhead
digital projector.
