The Dr. Edwin Quistorff Opera Aria Prize Competition
The Dr. Edwin Quistorff Opera Aria Prize 2011 marks the competition's fifth year. Competitors must
be enrolled in applied voice study at in the UCM Department of Music. Each singer presents two arias, each in the original language,
one of which must be English. An adjudicator from outside the university chooses First and Second Prize winners from among the
participants who will receive the $250 and $75 prizes. An Honorable Mention may be awarded as well. The winner is further honored by getting to perform on a departmental
recital or other venue approved by the Choral and Vocal Studies Faculty as the Quistorff Opera Prize winner.
The Dr. Edwin Quistorff Opera Aria Prize is made possible through the generosity of Edwin and Lynda Quistorff. Dr. Edwin Quistorff retired in 2001 after 30 years of service to the University of Central Missouri and its students as a voice teacher and director of the Opera Theatre program. Prior to coming to UCM, Dr. Quistorff worked as a freelance tenor and voice teacher, and taught for six years at the high school and junior college levels in Ironwood, Michigan. Edwin and Lynda sponsor the Dr. Edwin Quistorff Opera Aria Prize to foster a love and excellence in singing and a love of opera amongst the current generation of voice students at UCM. The Department of Music is honored to be able to host this wonderful celebration of operatic singing.
