Contact: Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG, MO (June 13, 2011) – The University of Central Missouri welcomes the 2011 session of the American Legion Missouri Boys State to campus.
The 72nd session convenes June 11-18, bringing a variety of state and national political and business leaders to Warrensburg as keynote speakers. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon leads a list that includes Missouri Gov. Bob Holden; Kelly King, president of the South Central region for AT&T; Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, John Danforth, former U.S. senator from Missouri and former ambassador to the United Nations; and Eric Greitens, former U.S. Navy Seal commander and White House fellow.
The American Legion Boys State of Missouri is a hands-on experience in the operation and fundamentals of government that draws together the best and brightest high school juniors to help lead them down the path of individual success and leadership through "doing," not just learning.
Using the democratic system as a basis, Boys State citizens construct their own state, participating in the democratic system. The culmination of the week is the election of the new Missouri Boys State officials.
