Friends of Music Society Announces Exciting Fall Season
Department of Music Faculty Showcase
The Department of Music Faculty Showcase opens the season at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in Hart Recital Hall. The program, titled “Beyond the Horizon,” offers a mix of classics and new music. Highlights include the Warrensburg premieres of compositions for solo saxophone and computer by Eric Honour, associate professor of music, and a composition on the chapman stick Sean Malone, visiting instructor in music. Vocalist Jacob Sentgeorge, a new member of the UCM music faculty, will make his debut, along with a jazz combo featuring faculty members David Aaberg and Michael Sekelsky, professors of music, and Malone.
The Athens Saxophone Quartet
The Athens Saxophone Quartet takes the Hart Recital Hall stage in a 7:30 p.m. concert Wednesday, Sept. 17. The virtuoso ensemble of musicians with home bases in Missouri and Greece will offer a program of music by Greek composers Michael Adamis, Dimitris Themelis and Athanasios Zervas; UCM’s own Eric Honour; and a quartet by Dinos Constantinides, professor of music as Louisiana State University and director of the Louisiana Sinfonietta.
Mary Ann Hart
The fall season concludes with the return of UCM alumna Mary Ann Hart to her alma mater for a vocal recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 in Hart Recital Hall. Hart’s international performing career has included appearance on the soundtrack of Disney’s “Beauty and Beast,” and she serves as head of the Department of Voice at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In addition to her recital program, she will conduct master classes with UCM music students, which will be open to the public.
Admission to the Faculty Showcase recital is free of charge. Tickets for the remaining two performances are available for $12 for adults and $5 for UCM students and children age 17 and younger. Group discounts also are available. For ticket information, contact Mia Hynes, associate professor of music, at email@example.com or 660-543-8900.
