For the second consecutive year, UCM has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of “America’s Best Colleges.”

Rankings an Indicator of UCM's Success

The publication includes UCM in the Midwest regional category of Best Universities-Master’s. This category is for institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs, and tend to draw students from surrounding states. UCM ranks in the top 19 public master’s-level institutions in the Midwest. The university also ranks number one in the Midwest for least debt of graduates, and ranks 14th nationally among all public colleges and universities for lightest debt load.

More Than 500 Universities in 12 States Included

U.S. News & World Report has included a total of 572 universities in its Best Universities-Master’s category, which consists of the North, South, Midwest, and West regions. The Midwest region is comprised of 12 states.

Variety of Indicators Reviewed

According to the publication, rankings are based on data gathered about each college that include up to 15 indicators of academic excellence, and each factor is assigned a weight that reflects the publication’s judgment about how much a measure matters. Indicators used to capture academic quality include: assessment by administrators at peer institutions, retention of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and graduation rate performance. Indicators also include measures related to the student body, faculty, and financial resources, as well as outcome measures that signal how well the institution does its job of educating students.
