Podolefsky Announces Reorganization of University Advancement

Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (April 9, 2009) – UCM President Aaron Podolefsky has announced a reorganization of the University Advancement division. The strategic realignment is designed to create a more effective fundraising and communications organization while also streamlining administrative costs.

“As the sustained economic downturn continues to have a dramatic effect on philanthropy and fundraising efforts, it has become apparent that we need to adjust our organization to meet today’s challenges,” the president said in a letter to campus.

Vice President Post Eliminated, Two Units Created

As part of the realignment, the position of vice president for University Advancement will be eliminated, with responsibilities divided among two units, Development and University Relations. At the president’s request, former Vice President for University Advancement Paul Page came out of retirement last year to fill the post on a part-time, interim basis, following the death of Larry Cowan.

“Paul’s return to service allowed time to develop a plan for moving forward,” Podolefsky said. “We are deeply appreciative of his contributions during a time of transition.”

University Directors Will Oversee University Relations, Development

Under the reorganization, Jeffery Morris becomes university director and chief communications officer after serving as assistant vice president for University Relations. Joe Kremer, assistant vice president for major gifts in the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, becomes university director and chief development officer and will provide management of development, annual giving, alumni relations, and corporate relations functions. Recognizing the importance of having the chief fundraising officer work closely with the president, Podolefsky has also asked Kremer to join the President’s Cabinet.

Senior Advancement Council Created

Podolefsky will ensure focus and coordination of fundraising efforts by creating a Senior Advancement Council. Council members will develop plans to raise funds for students impacted by the economy and to develop fundraising practices and communication strategies that integrate campus constituencies and prepare for more extensive efforts in the future.
