WARRENSBURG - 6/27/2006 - UCM's Kristin Anderson ran to an impressive second place finish at the AT&T United States Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, IN, Saturday, June 24.

She finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase  with a time of 9:57.98, just four-tenths of a second behind the winner.  Anderson staged an impressive kick in an attempt to catch Lisa Galaviz of team Nike, but Anderson's charge fell just short and Galaviz held on to a narrow victory as the two crossed the finish line.

Two Former Jennies Compete in Indianapolis

In addition to Anderson, the event included another UCM Jennies alumna.  Warrensburg resident Jane Rudkin now runs for Team XO.  Rudkin finished in ninth place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, posting a time of 10:15.98.

Qualifies for U.S. National Team

The meet, run at the IU Mike A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium, brings the top athletes from across the country in hopes of setting new national and world records.  Anderson's finish qualified to her to compete overseas for the U. S. national team later this summer.

Outstanding Collegiate Career

Anderson is a graduate student in communications. She is a native of Richfield, OH. A standout long-distance runner during her career at UCM, she also captured the Women's 3,000 meter Steeplechase May 28 at the 2005 NCAA-II Championships in Abilene, TX.  Anderson was named as the 2006 recipient of the Ken B. Jones Award on June 1, as the MIAA "Female Student-Athlete of the Year."  She is the fifth UCM student-athlete to be honored in the history of the award.
