Baker Named to Board of Governors

Missouri Governor Matt Blunt has announced the appointment of Edward L. Baker (R), 47, Columbia, to UCM's Board of Governors.
Succeeds Board Member Palmer R. Nichols II
Baker has served since 1985 as partner and executive vice president of Executive Hotel Management in Columbia. He fills a seat currently held by Palmer R. Nichols II, Jefferson City, whose term has expired. Baker will serve UCM through Jan. 1, 2013.
The new board member earned a Bachelor of Science degree in general studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia in May 1987, after previously attending Missouri Southern and Lincoln University.

Baker's first position was with Brock Hotel Corporation in 1980, where he advanced from guest service representative to management posts at the Holiday Inn East and Holiday Inn West in Columbia. A promotion led to a position at the Holiday Inn Denver West in Golden, CO, in May 1984. He returned to Columbia the following year.
Responsible for Management and Business Expansion
His duties at Executive Hotel Management have included serving as general manager of the Hilton Hotel in Columbia, supervising the construction of the community's largest convention center, and facilitating the conversion of the Hilton to Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Select. He also facilitated the purchase of the Radisson Hotel in Knoxville, TN, and the purchase of a Sheraton hotel in Baton Rouge, LA, and supervised the building and opening of a 45,000-square-foot convention center.
Active in Statewide Organizations
A supporter of UCM athletics, Baker has been a member of the Mule Train since 2002. His professional affiliations have also included serving as past chair of the Missouri Governor's Task Force on Tourism, advisory board member of the University of Missouri Hotel and Restaurant School, and board president for the Missouri Hotel/Motel Association.
