U.S. News Ranks UCM Among the Best

WARRENSBURG - 08/17/2007 - President Aaron Podolefsky's efforts to increase the university's academic profile are paying off for UCM. The university was just named one of "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News & World Report.
Ranked 15th in the Midwest Among Master's Institutions
Among all public master's institutions in the Midwest, Central Missouri ranks 15th. These include institutions that offer baccalaureate, master's and limited doctoral degrees. The university also announced that, based on preliminary analysis, the incoming freshman class has the highest average ACT score in its history.
Strong Academic Programs, High Job Placement Rates
"Our strong academic programs, low student-debt load and high job placement rates make UCM an attractive choice for today's students," Podolefsky said. "UCM is also one of America's best value colleges, as noted by our recent designation by The Princeton Review."
The Honors College Contributes to Strong Academic Profile
UCM's Honors College contributes to the university's strong academic profile. The 700 students in The Honors College boast academic credentials rivaling elite private schools. The average ACT of incoming first-year honors students is 27.3, and their average high school grade point average is 3.8, according to Peter Viscusi, dean of the college.
Annual Publication a Valuable Resource
"America's Best Colleges" is an annual publication by U.S. News available on newsstands Aug. 20. The annual rankings group schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and is a popular resource for parents and students who are contemplating which college or university best fits their education goals. Comparative research is used to help students and their families make choices.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings represent a comprehensive analysis of how more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools compare. The analysis is based on a set of 15 widely accepted indicators of excellence, such as graduation rates, class size, full-time faculty in the classroom, and quality of incoming students.
