WARRENSBURG, MO (June 30, 2008) – UCM has been named a member of the Community Blood Center’s Community Star Club for its significant contribution to the blood drives conducted on the UCM campus during 2007.

Kristie Brinkley, coordinator of volunteer services for UCM’s Office of Campus Activities, received the award from Robin Norfleet, donor recruitment representative for the Community Blood Center, during a recent blood drive in the Elliott Union ballroom.

UCM Blood Drives Exceed Goal

A total of 19 groups received the award, which is presented to those groups whose blood drives have produced a total of more than 400 pints of blood during 2007. The four blood drives conducted at UCM last year generated donations of 573 pints of blood.

Donation Benefit Local Hospital

Norfleet noted that the contribution to these blood drives by UCM and the surrounding community was a significant factor in allowing the center to meet its need for 580 units of blood per day, making the UCM blood drives one the largest in the region. All donations received during the UCM blood drives benefit Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. More than 70 hospitals are served by the Community Blood Center.

Students and Area Residents Meet the Need

“UCM and Warrensburg have long been giving communities, and the response to our campus blood drives during the past 15 years is proof that our students and citizens recognize the continuing need in our community. We’re proud of our service to our local hospital,” Brinkley said.
