Missouri Boys State Convenes at UCM June 12-19

WARRENSBURG, MO (June 2, 2010) – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and John Bolton, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, will be among the state officials and dignitaries addressing the 2010 session of the American Legion Missouri Boys State June 12-19 on the University of Central Missouri campus.
All of the presentations will take place in Hendricks Hall.
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster opens the 71st session as he addresses the nearly 1,000 citizens of Missouri Boys State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12. Gov. Nixon speaks to the group in a special session at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 13, and Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, June 14.
Bolton will deliver the 22nd annual George W. Lehr Memorial Speakers Chair at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 15. As the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Bolton was strong in his defense of American economic and security interests, regardless of popular or waning public opinion. He will share his views on domestic policy issues, global security, diplomacy and how global economy will affect the country in coming years.
The George W. Lehr Memorial Speakers Chair was established in 1988 as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Missouri Boys State program. The Lehr Chair honors the late George W. Lehr, former Missouri state auditor and Jackson County executive who was a Boys State participant and a tireless supporter of the program.
Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan will speak to a joint session of Missouri Boys State House and Senate at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, June 17. Carnahan will announce the results of the statewide elections and swear in the new Missouri Boys State governor and the newly elected constitutional officers and Supreme Court justices.
Eric Greitens, a White House fellow, Navy Seal commander and Rhodes Scholar, returns to Missouri Boys State at 7 p.m. Friday, June 18. A veteran of Iraq, Greitens will share his extraordinary career with Boys State citizens.
The Boys State Government in Action and the final awards ceremony are planned for 8 p.m. Saturday, June 19. Families, teachers and friends of the Boys State participants are invited to attend.
