Roberts Named to Cazenovia College Board of Trustees

WARRENSBURG, MO (June 20, 2008) – Betty J. Roberts, Ph.D., vice president for administration and finance at UCM, has been elected to a position on the Cazenovia College Board of Trustees. Roberts is a Cazenovia alumna.
Named one of "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News & World Report, Cazenovia is a small, independent, co-educational, baccalaureate college located near Syracuse, NY. The college offers a comprehensive liberal arts education, with academic and co-curricular programs devoted to developing leaders in their professional fields. Meeting four times a year, the Board of Trustees is the college’s official governing body.

Oversees Fiscal and Operational Functions
In her role as vice president for administration and finance, Roberts oversees fiscal and operational functions of UCM, including budget, accounting, investments, accounts payable, student accounts, payroll, human resources, procurement and materials, facilities management and operations, capital projects, public safety, risk management and the university store.
Background in Education and Finance
Before joining the UCM administration, Roberts was associate vice president for information technology at the University of Houston, and assistant vice president for business services at the Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA. She has worked in the areas of education and finance since 1972.
Roberts received an associate in arts degree from Cazenovia College; a bachelor of arts degree from Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn.; and a master of education degree in elementary education from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY. She earned an education specialist degree and a doctor of philosophy degree, both in higher and adult education, from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She received certification in financial management from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
Active in Community and Leadership Roles
In addition to her degrees, Roberts has had extensive training and experience through numerous management and leadership programs and conferences. Roberts is a member of the Warrensburg Rotary Club, served on the Houston Zoo Advisory Board, the Board of Directors for Parent Leadership Union of Texas, and many other civic organizations. In response to various requests Roberts has spoken on the topics of management, diversity, and leadership. Among her honors and awards are The Pennsylvania State University's Administrative Excellence Award, The Outstanding Young Woman of America Award, the Kappa Alpha Psi Community Achievement Award, and Outstanding Alumni Award from Thomas J. Corcoran High School, Syracuse, NY.
