WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 9, 2011) – Demonstrating excellence in a variety of areas, the University of Central Missouri magazine, Today, received three awards during the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District VI Annual Awards ceremony.
Awards were announced Jan. 10 at a reception at the Westin Crown Center in Kansas City as part of the group’s annual conference Jan. 9-11. Participants came from an eight-state region including Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Today magazine received honors for its online issue as well as for advertising and editorial design. The magazine earned a gold award for Excellence in Graphic Design-Editorial Design for the spread on Shatto Milk in the spring 2010 issue. In addition, the publication earned a bronze award for Excellence in Advertising-Single Page Ad for the homecoming ad featuring an alumnus’ dog wearing UCM gear, also in the spring 2010 issue, and a bronze award for Excellence in Communication Periodicals-Electronic Newsletter or Magazine for the Today Online fall 2009 and spring 2010 issues.
“These awards reflect the magazine’s ongoing quality, even with a significantly reduced budget,” said Dalene Abner, executive editor. “More importantly, UCM alumni tell us how much they continue to appreciate and enjoy this publication. It remains their number one tool for keeping current with what is happening on campus and for staying in contact with other alumni.”
The magazine is published quarterly and circulated in print to about 70,000 readers in the United States. The online issue is distributed by email to about 12,000 readers throughout the world.
