Online Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Recognized for Affordability

Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (July 11, 2014) – A sign that the University of Central Missouri’s efforts to help make quality education more accessible are paying off, GetEducated.com has named UCM among 18 schools nationwide that offer “best affordable online master’s degrees in criminal justice.”

According to the GetEducated.com website, degree programs named to the list are those serving individuals who are preparing to become police, security, homeland security, or forensics professionals. UCM is ranked sixth in affordability for its nationally known Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree.

To establish rankings, GetEducated.com conducted a review in spring 2014 of regionally accredited online master’s degree programs in criminal justice. It published a list of “best” schools with an “estimated sticker price” for each program – all less than $20,000 for the entire degree, although actual costs per student may vary. Transfer credits, prerequisite courses, financial aid availability, and other factors can affect a student’s final cost. Affordability rankings were calculated by comparing tuition and distance learning fees at 31 regionally accredited universities nationwide that offer 37 online master’s degrees in criminal justice.

“Affordability for students is a key priority in the UCM Strategic Governance model, yet maintaining a high quality program is equally as important,” said Deborah Curtis, UCM’s provost and chief learning officer. “This acknowledgement of the MS in Criminal Justice is evidence of a strong faculty with a commitment to excellence in education that has resulted in attaining both of these lofty goals.  We are extremely proud of this recognition for a program that has long been positioned among our signature programs here at UCM.”

In addition to recognizing, UCM’s MS in Criminal Justice online degree, since 2011 GetEducated.com has also listed four other UCM degree programs on its other “best” lists for affordability. These include:

  • Master’s in Education Best Buys for the MS in Educational Technology
  • Master’s in Library Science Best Buys for the MS in Library Science and Information Services
  • Master’s in Educational and Instructional Technology Best Buys for MS in Educational Technology
  • Best Affordable Online BSN for UCM’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing
