WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 6, 2007) – Continuing its winning tradition, the UCM’s G.E. Davila Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association – Lambda Alpha Epsilon captured the Sweepstakes Trophy for the sixth consecutive year at the ACJA-LAE Region III competition in Liberal, KS.

The Sweepstakes Trophy is awarded to the school which wins the most individual and team event trophies.

The competition consists of academic examinations in the areas of criminal law, juvenile justice, corrections, police management, and LAE knowledge. Students also compete in crime scene investigations, firearms, and physical agility events. Competitions take place in the lower division, which includes students with fewer than 60 credit hours; upper division, for undergraduate students with more than 60 credit hours; and professional.

Angela Dudley received the top academic award at the competition given to the student with the highest total of academic points, and Brody Sanson was named Top Gun in the individual firearms competition.

“Of the 44 students and professionals from UCM attending the competition, 28 received team or individual trophies,” said Roger Pennel, UCM professor of criminal justice and team sponsor. “The upper division students continue to be strong, and the chapter has a great future with an excellent group of lower division members.”

The American Criminal Justice Association – Lambda Alpha Epsilon is a national criminal justice organization dedicated to furthering education in criminal justice.
