Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug. 24, 2009) – UCMi has set Friday and Saturday, June 18-19, 2010 as the dates for the next College High Reunion, an all-school reunion for alumni of the campus laboratory high school. Individuals who attended the Training School, College High School or University High School are encouraged to make plans to participate.
The reunion committee, which includes lab school graduates and members of the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, has been meeting for more than a year to plan activities. The reunion tentatively includes an afternoon golf tournament and evening social event/dance on Friday, followed by Saturday activities including class photos, a special event at the school memorial, lunch and program, and class gatherings by decades. The 50th year reunion of the Class of 1960 is also planned Saturday evening at Heroes.
Additional details, including registration information and a completed schedule, will be provided closer to the event. The reunion committee is co-chaired by College High alumnae Melissa Gower and Bonnie Bartlett.
Lab schools at UCM trace their origin back to 1906 when the Missouri General Assembly approved $50,000 to construct the first training building. They provided K-12 education to faculty members’ children and to youth from the Warrensburg and Centerview area, which at the time had no high school. It opened as the Training School, then became known as College High School, and was operating as University High School when it closed in 1976. The elementary school closed in 1980. A permanent memorial to the school and its students and faculty was dedicated west of Morrow Gymnasium during UCM’s 2007 Homecoming celebration.
