Contact: Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG - 8/03/2006 -
UCM's Department of Modern Languages is providing an opportunity to explore two of the less commonly taught world languages with new courses in Arabic and Russian.
Learn Basic Russian
Learn the principles of basic Russian pronunciation, build a Russian vocabulary and gain an introduction to Russian culture. The course meets 6-9 p.m. Mondays during fall semester on the UCM campus in Warrensburg.
Modern Arabic Taught through Interactive Television
The course in Modern Arabic is an online course offering two years of instruction through a consortium of universities led by Montana State University. Students enrolled through UCM will meet with an on-site instructor in an interactive television studio on the Warrensburg campus, where they will interact with other students enrolled at consortium institutions.
Opportunity to Study Abroad
Students completing the first year of Modern Arabic course on campus then will have the opportunity for a semester or academic year of study in Morocco. The Russian and Modern Arabic courses also may be applied toward the fulfillment of requirements for the World Languages minor offered by the Department of Modern Languages beginning fall semester 2006.
