Day of Remembrance to Honor Those Who Have Lost Their Lives in Service
Contact Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (May 17, 2012) – Members of the campus community and the general public have an opportunity to personally remember those who lost their lives in service to the United States during the Pre-Memorial Day Open Day of Remembrance planned for Wednesday, May 23 at the University of Central Missouri Alumni Memorial Chapel.
Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., students, faculty, staff, and community members can stop by the chapel to pause for a personal moment of silence in remembrance of lost soldiers and family members who died during military service. This is a “come and go” event. Attendees will have the opportunity to add their loved ones' names along with comments pertaining to relationship and branch of service to poster board, which will later be made into a "wall of remembrance." This will be displayed in the windows of the Military and Veteran Success Center at UCM over the memorial weekend.
The chapel will be appropriately decorated with a Memorial Day wreath, flags to commemorate the day of remembrance, and the Fallen Comrades Table. Memorial Day Remembrance and Veteran buttons will be available in the Alumni Memorial Chapel for veterans and other attendees to recognize their participation in the event.
Individuals who have questions are encouraged to contact Delilah Nichols, coordinator of Military and Veteran Services, at 660-543-8776 or nichols@ucmo.edu.
