UCM Debate Team Brings Home State Titles

WARRENSBURG, MO (March 30, 2012) - UCM's Talking Mules debate team recently returned from the Missouri Association of Forensic Activties state tournament at Truman State University with a pair of state championship titles.
Senior debater Adam Blood claimed was named state champion in after dinner speaking, along with second place in Pentathlon, the award reserved for those participating in five events. He also took second place honors in extemporaneous speaking and debate, as well as third in impromptu speaking and fourth in persuasion.
Sophomore Ryan Michael claimed the state championship in informative speaking. Michael and Blood also placed second in parliamentary debate. Junior Micah Chrisman and freshman Joshua Ford advanced to the semi-final round in novice parliamentary debate, and Chrismas was named fourth-best speaker in the novice division out of 22 competitors.
The team will travle to Portland, Ore., for the United States Debate Championships; Athens, Ohio, for the National Forensics Association tournament; and to the United Kingdom later this month for the Montgomery Cup competition.
