Congressional Members Host Defending Our Defenders Session at UCM
Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (Sept. 11, 2012) – Learn more about the impact of potential national defense cuts and what this means to state economies, active duty military personnel and retired veterans during the Defending our Defenders Listening Session Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the University of Central Missouri. The public event begins at 6:30 p.m. in Hendricks Hall, 208 E. South St., Warrensburg, and is being hosted by U.S. Congressional members Vicky Hartzler, Missouri Fourth District, and Randy Forbes, Virginia Fourth District.
The public forum will include brief information from members of Congress, and a moderated “open mic” to allow participants to share stories, voice opinions, and ask questions about how defense cuts will impact Missouri communities. All interested individuals, including concerned citizens, military retirees, veterans, small business owners, defense contractors, and local associations are invited to attend. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Forbes, who has been touring the country to raise awareness of the impact of potential defense cuts and sequestration, is chair of the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee, and Hartzler, a UCM alumna, is a member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. During the presentations, both members of Congress will share a message about why it is important for the country to make providing for the common defense a priority.
Individuals who plan to attend are encouraged to RSVP at www.defendingourdefendersmo.eventbright.com.
More information is available online at www.defendingourdefenders.com. UCM’s Office of Military and Veteran Services is cooperating with Hartzler’s office to make this program possible.
