Ambrose Signs Proclamation Designating Distance Learning Week at UCM

WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 7, 2011) – The University of Central Missouri joins members of the United States Distance Learning Association and the Missouri Distance Learning Association in a week-long celebration of National Distance Learning Week Nov. 7-11 on the UCM campus.

UCM President Chuck Ambrose kicked off the week with the signing of a proclamation designating Distance Learning Week on the UCM campus. He was joined by George Wilson, UCM chief learning officer and provost; and Joe Vaughn, dean of the School of Graduate and Extended Studies; Rick Sluder, vice provost for enrollment management; Jim Graham, vice provost and chief information officer; and Mike Grelle, vice provost for institutional effectiveness and assessment.
Ambrose noted that Distance Learning Week at UCM celebrates not only technology, but the opportunities for each student to be engaged with faculty when unable to attend classes on campus.
"These opportunties celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of many people here at UCM," he siad. "Distance learning opportunities increase access, not just for convenience, but to make sure that people can succeed through the completion of a degree."
Distance Learning Week at UCM will feature a series of webinars, seminars and training sessions scheduled throughout the week. A highlight of the week-long celebration on the UCM campus will be a presentation by Travis Allen, a student at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Ga., who is president and CEO of the iSchool Initiative, which brings options for the use of technology in distance learning to educational environments worldwide.
