WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 16, 2011) – University of Central Missouri alumna Amanda Duffy will receive the Ed See Outstanding Theatre Alumnus Award Friday, Feb. 18, at the evening performance of The Clean House, the Department of Theatre mainstage production. The presentation will take place in the Highlander Theatre prior to the beginning of the performance.Curtain time for The Clean House is 7:30 p.m.
Ed See, professor emeritus of theatre and longtime chair of the Department of Theatre, established the Ed See Outstanding Theatre Alumnus Award through the University Foundation upon his retirement. The purpose of the endowment is to honor UCM Theatre alumni who have in some way distinguished themselves in theatre education, community theatre, or in some area of professional theatre and have demonstrated commitment and love for the theatre arts. The award recognizes those alumni who have honored their alma mater through their dedication and various theatrical achievements.
Duffy received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Technical Theatre from UCM in 1999. While at UCM she was active both on and off the stage. As an actress she appeared in The Elephant Man, Arcadia, Ah, Wilderness!, Stanton’s Garage, and The Lark, for which she received a Best Actress Award. Duffy completed numerous production assignments, including choreographer for Guys and Dolls, Assassins and The Caucasian Chalk Circle, assistant costume designer for The Lion in Winter and This Site Unsuitable for Dragons, wig designer for Ah, Wildernesss! and makeup and hair designer for The Caucasian Chalk Circle.
Following her graduation from UCM, Duffy completed a professional internship program in the wig shop at The Julliard School, studied at The Actor’s Studio in New York, and completed her MFA in Acting from Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Playhouse. She has done professional wig work on Broadway with the productions of Mary Poppins, Sweet Charity, The Color Purple, Bye Bye Birdie, and The New 42nd Street. She has also served as wig designer for Princeton University, Bay Street Theatre, Ma-Yi Theatre Ensemble and the Berkshire Opera Company.
Duffy is a professional actress and belongs to both Actors Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild. Her New York area appearances include The Metropolitan Opera, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, and Premiere Stages. Her Regional credits include roles with the Cleveland Playhouse, Utah Shakespeare Festival and the New American Playwrights Project.
