UCM Receives $513,340 Estate Gift

WARRENSBURG - 10/25/2007 - UCM has received a half million dollar gift from the late William and June Koier, UCM President Aaron Podolefsky recently announced. Koier, a Central Missouri alumnus who built a successful career as a private investor and real estate developer, and his wife, June, left the university $513,340 through their estate.

The generosity of their unrestricted gift provides an extraordinary opportunity for UCM,” said President Aaron Podolefsky. “As one generation helps the next, the transformative nature of this philanthropic act will help our students for years to come.”
Larry Cowan, vice president for university advancement and executive director of the UCM Foundation, added, “I’m struck by the powerful feelings alumni have for this institution. An estate gift such as this is a perfect example. We hope that other graduates will follow the example set by the Koiers.”
Career in Construction and Real Estate Development
President of Haven Construction Company in Bethesda, MD, Koier graduated cum laude from UCM in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree in social studies and economics. He was a member of Phi Sigma Pi, a national honorary fraternity founded at UCM in 1916.
Following college, Koier went to Washington, D.C., where he did personnel work for the war department and later for the White House, under President Harry S Truman’s administration. He left government service in 1950 and, utilizing the post-war housing boom, founded Haven Construction Company, specializing in both residential and commercial projects.
Koier also was a founding director of Eagle Bancorp, the holding company of Bethesda-based EagleBank, as well as a former director of Allegiance Banc Corporation and Central National Bank of Maryland. He died in 2003 at the age of 83 in Rockville, MD. His wife, June, died in 2006.
