WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 23, 2010) – The University of Central Missouri Department of Music will present the annual Feast of Carols holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. .2, and Saturday, Dec. 4.
The combined choirs of University Concert Choir, Collegiate Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will present the two performances of holiday music in Hart Recital Hall. The concerts are free and open to the public.
“This has become a holiday tradition for the campus and the Warrensburg area,” said Robert Lawrence, one of the directors. “We also will introduce Alan Zabriskie, UCM’s new director of choral activities.”
The choirs will present traditional holiday carols in a fast-paced performance. The audience will be invited to sing along to holiday favorites such as “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
The choirs also will perform standards like “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” and “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” as well as combined works such as Benjamin Britten’s “This Little Babe” and Andre Thomas’ “African Noel.” The annual favorite “Hallelujah” chorus from the “Messiah” will round out the evening.
A reception is planned and wassail will be served in the Utt Music Building lobby following the concerts.
