Film Festival Examines Social Issues

WARRENSBURG - 1/19/2007- The University of Central Missouri will host "Show Me Your Issue," the American Democracy Project Campus Conference and Film Festival, Thursday, Jan. 25, in the Elliott Union.

Films Cover Variety of Topics

The festival will feature screenings and discussions of films from the award-winning PBS  independent, non-fiction film series, "Point of View." The films will cover a variety of topics, including religion, disability, war, the minimum wage, public education and health.

Luncheon Screening Features LA Filmmaker

A highlight of the event is a luncheon screening of the film "Dolls with Issues" and a plenary discussion with Los Angeles filmmaker Frederick J. Taylor of Tomorrow Pictures, Inc. A free deli buffet will be provided at the luncheon screening, which is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Elliott Union ballroom.

Three Films Planned for Morning Session

The festival begins at 9:30 a.m. with morning screenings of three films:

Afternoon film screenings will follow the luncheon film and discussion, beginning at 1 p.m.:

The American Democracy Project

The American Democracy Project (ADP) is a co-operative initiative of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), The New York Times, and AASCU member-institutions. The project involves 183 member campuses, including UCM. The project involves a series of national activities coordinated by the national project coordinators, and a series of campus activities coordinated by each participating campus.
