UCM Celebrates Opening of Fitz Diner, UCM's Newest Dining Option

WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug. 21, 2014) – The University of Central Missouri and Sodexo, provider of campus dining services for the university, joined the Greater Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce in ushering in a new concept in dining on the UCM campus Thursday, Aug. 21, with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Fitzgerald Dining Center.
The new Fitzgerald Dining Center brings a new concept in campus dining to UCM
The new facility is located in the renovated dining hall and kitchen of the Fitzgerald residence hall, located at the corner of South Holden and Houx streets on the UCM campus. It features a variety of dining options and extended dining hours for UCM students, faculty and staff, as well as the dining public.
The 10,000 square foot facility will seat nearly 300 when at capacity. Dining options include an a la carte menu of traditional favorites served short-order style, along with a buffet-style, full meal option. Also featured are Simple Servings, a choice of allergen-free dining options prepared in a separate, allergen-free kitchen to prevent crossover contamination, along with a full salad bar and vegetarian meal options.
A new option unique to the Fitzgerald Dining Center is the Fitz Diner, offering late night, a la carte options for students and the dining public. While the full dining center is open during traditional dining hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the a la carte section will reopen from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. as the Fitz Diner, offering late night dining options.
“UCM is place where it’s sometime difficult to differentiate where the community stops and the campus begins,” said UCM President Chuck Ambrose. “When we initiated the Contract for Completion as part of our promise of Learning to Greater Degree for student success, we also made a commitment to provide opportunities for students to engage in all aspects of life at this university. We’ve taken Fitzgerald dining hall back to a new level of that engagement with late night dining, a major investment by Sodexo. This is just a taste of what we will be offering with The Crossing—South at Holden, UCM’s new residential and retail facility under construction.”
Cal Thetford, regional vice president for Sodexo, noted that the concepts included in the Fitzgerald Dining Center are the “next evolution in the transformation of campus dining. It is important for us to make our part of the living experience for UCM students the best possible.”
