WARRENSBURG - 09/06/2007 - Friends and alumni of UCM's Department of Music have an opportunity to make a very real contribution to the continued growth of the department and successes of its students. The Friends of Music Society is bringing them together for the second year in a common effort to support quality music programs offered by UCM while enjoying a diverse selection of fine musical entertainment.
The Faculty Music Showcase
The 2007-2008 UCM Friends of Music Society Concert Series will kick off with the UCM Music Faculty Showcase Monday, Sept. 17 in the Hart Recital Hall. The evening features virtuoso classical and jazz music, highlighting the talent of the university’s music faculty.
Steinway Day Features Pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi
UCM and the surrounding community will join the Friends of Music Society and the Department of Music for the celebration of Steinway Day Monday, Sept. 24. Officials with Steinway and Sons will present a plaque marking the dedication of UCM’s status as an All-Steinway School prior to the evening concert. A highlight of the event will be the guest concert performance by internationally renowned pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi, and member of the Steinway Concert Artist roster, in Hart Recital Hall.
The Wind Ensemble Spectacular
The Wind Ensemble Spectacular is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 24. UCM music students and faculty present a joint concert in Hendricks Hall. Featured works include William Schuman’s “New England Triptych,” a composition built around Revolutionary War hymns and marching songs.
The Fountain City Brass and Daryl Duff: The American Voice
Kansas City’s Fountain City Brass will return to UCM at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 for a delightful evening of music for all audiences, also in Hendricks Hall. UCM alumnus Daryl Duff, a member of the Navy Sea Chanters, returns to his alma mater Sunday, March 2 in “Daryl Duff: The American Voice” in Hart Recital Hall.
The Gala Scholarship Concert
The Gala Scholarship Concert is the finale of the concert season April 4 in Hendricks Hall. The event continues the long tradition of the gala performances by UCM music faculty and students that have benefited the department’s scholarship fund. More than 160 students from the Department of Music will share their talent and dedication.
All Friends of Music performances begin at 7:30 p.m., with the exception of the Fountain City Brass concert.
Partners in Growth and Success
“The members of the Friends of Music Society are really partners with the Department of Music,” said Mia Hynes, associate professor of piano and faculty liaison to the Friends of Music Society. “This concert series is a way for us to bring world-class entertainment to campus while maximizing our fundraising potential.”
Become a Member
Become a member of the Friends of Music Society by making a donation to the UCM Foundation in support of music initiatives. Members may support not only the scholarship programs, but also instrument and technology acquisition and maintenance, and appearances by guest artists and master teachers who will work with UCM’s music students.
“In addition to individual members, we also have partners in the business community who support us through advertising, and we are developing future opportunities for corporate sponsorships,” Hynes said.
Special Benefits Included
Special benefits to donors at certain levels of membership include the opportunity to have music faculty perform at private events, to “name” a concert in honor or memory of a friend or loved one, or to be a guest conductor with one of the university’s major ensembles. In addition, donors will receive invitations to special social and musical events and public recognition in print materials at upcoming concerts.
