Gallery of Art and Design Hosts Lecture by Porter Arneill

WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 12, 2012) – The University of Central Missouri Gallery of Art and Design will host a guest lecture by Porter Arneill, director and public art administrator for the Kansas City, Missouri Municipal Art Commission.

Arneill will speak on “What Makes a Place Great? Public Art Civic Catalyst” at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the gallery, located at 217 E. Clark St. in Warrensburg. The public is invited to attend, free of charge.
Arneill has served in his current position since 2002, facilitating the “1% for the Arts” program in Kansas City. He received a master's degree in fine art from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. After graduate school, he created and exhibited his own work while assisting artists with public art projects in the United States, Europe and China.
He has served as the director of education and adjunct curator at Laumeier Sculpture Park and Museum and as the director of public art and education for the Regional Arts Commission, both in St. Louis. He was elected to the Americans for the Arts/Public Art Network (PAN) Council in 2004 and 2007 and served as co-vice chair.
The UCM Gallery of Art and Design is open to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Groups are welcome.
