WARRENSBURG, MO (May 16, 2012) – The University of Central Missouri’s Gallery of Art and Design will host a pair of exhibitions to open the summer exhibition season Thursday, May 18 through Saturday, June 16.
In the Main Gallery, the annual Mid-Missouri Artists Exhibition will feature works in a variety of artistic media. Founded in 1970, Mid-Missouri Artists encourages area artists in their creative endeavors, fostering, promoting and advancing the existing cultural and educational organizations in Mid-Missouri. MMA serves artists in Johnson, Lafayette, Henry and Pettis counties.
On exhibit in the Outer Gallery, “Missouri—Color and Form” will feature paintings by John T. Williams, native Missourian, resident of the Truman Lake area and senior studio art major in UCM’s Department of Art and Design. Williams’ work represents more than 35 years as a painter.
“Most of John's paintings are fairly large in scale, but usually never larger than 48 inches by 38 inches, the largest size he can fit into his 1992 Honda Civic,” said Christian Cutler, director of the UCM Gallery of Art and Design. “John is deft at capturing the impact of a scene. For the viewer, John's paintings are a delightful journey into the diverse natural areas of Missouri.”
An opening reception for both exhibitions is planned for 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 24 in the gallery. The exhibits and the reception are free and open to the public.
The UCM Gallery of Art and Design is located at 217 E. Clark in Warrensburg. The gallery is open to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday during the summer months. Groups are welcome. To learn more about the UCM Gallery of Art and Design, including upcoming exhibits, contact the gallery staff at 660-543-4498.
