WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 15, 2009) – UCM’s Gallery of Art and Design opens the spring exhibition season with two exhibits that examine gender, personal and nostalgic identity.
"Playful Things" features new work by Christina Vantzou, Brussels, Belgium; Magda Gluszek, Roswell, Ga; Sarah Knobel, Baltimore, Md; and Sharon Shapiro, Charlottesville, Va. "Wunderkammer" features a collection of new photographs by UCM faculty member Terry Ownby.
While "Playful Things" is an all-female exhibition that exemplifies the role of female identity as a point of departure in producing a body of work, "Wunderkammer" explores an artist's own nostalgic past as a series of catalogued events.
Working in a variety of media, artists in both exhibits present multiple viewpoints and explore their own reflective identities.
The UCM Gallery of Art and Design, located at 217 E. Clark Street, is open to the public, free of charge. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday; 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, and noon - 4 p.m. Saturday.
